Howdy, ya’ll — I thought maybe I should blog this one to help answer all those questions ya’ll have:
1. Yes, we felt and heard that meteor that flew across the Texas sky in February. It sounded like an airplane had crashed and shook the house and Earth beneath us. And, it was LOUD! We ran out to the front porch, but saw nothing more than a foggy haze just above the ground……shortly thereafter, the local fire department and others were rushing up and down our dusty gravel road trying to find (I’m sure) what exactly we had just experienced…..we didn’t really “know” anything until the next day when it was reported that a meteor had streaked across the blue sky, just above our farm……
2. Yes, we have found some meteorites! They sort of look like the kind of rocks we find at the bottom of a burn pile — black. Yep, just a sort of black, burned looking rock with a sort of “sheen” to it that makes it stand out among other rocks lying around.
3. No, we are not open to the public for “space rock” hunting. We have already reached an agreement with a collector, and have requested that other hunters please respect our privacy and our landowner rights. We appreciate the significance of this event; but this is also our family home and the attention has been a bit stressful. Thank you for your understanding.
Here are a few pictures, for those of you who may not have seen many pictures of these “space rocks” yet. Enjoy!
